THE BIRTH OF BANKING CHANAKYA
To commemorate its 90 years of dedicated service towards professional learning and skill development among bankers in India, IIBF launched ‘Banking Chanakya’ in 2017.
This innovative inter-bank quiz contest aimed to foster a spirit of competitive learning among bankers and provide a platform for knowledge sharing.
The response to the first edition of Banking Chanakya was overwhelming, with bankers from across the country enthusiastically participating. Encouraged by this enthusiastic response, IIBF decided to make Banking Chanakya an annual event, ensuring that the spirit of positive competition continues to thrive in the banking fraternity.

At its core, Banking Chanakya serves several vital purposes:
Competitive Learning
The contest encourages bankers to go beyond routine tasks and seek meaningful outlets for knowledge enhancement. It challenges participants to push their limits and engage in positive competition.

Now, let’s explore the details of Banking Chanakya, including the registration process and eligibility criteria.
REGISTRATION AND ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
Format:
Banking Chanakya is a team-based quiz contest were serving staff members currently employed in any bank across India can participate. It’s a team game, and each team should consist of two members from the same bank.
While they don’t need to be from the same city or branch, they should belong to the same zone. Importantly, there is no restriction on the number of teams that can register from each bank, and there is no registration fee.
Online Registration:
Teams can enter the contest directly by filling out the Online Registration Form on the Banking Chanakya webpage (www.iibfbankingchanakya.com) during the preliminary round. Care should be taken to ensure that individuals do not register themselves in more than one team.
Official Permission:
If participating teams qualify for the on-ground physical rounds, they must seek official permission from the Competent Authority of their respective organizations to represent their bank at the event (Zonal Semi-Finals or National Final).
THE CONTEST STRUCTURE
Banking Chanakya consists of four distinct stages:
PRELIMINARY ROUND
The preliminary round is a zone-wise online contest where teams participate from the comfort of their offices or homes. Teams of two participants from the same zone can register and play the preliminary round during the specified dates when the registration window is open.
The preliminary round for 2023 will take place from September 25, 2023 (10:00 am) to October 1, 2023 (11:59 pm). Results will be declared on October 3, 2023.
QUARTER FINAL ROUND
The quarter final round is also zone-wise and online. The top 200 teams (50 teams from each zone) that qualify from the preliminary round will compete in the quarter final round.
Teams will participate from their offices or homes on the specified day, and rankings will be based on their performance in the preliminary round and the time taken to complete the quiz.
The quarter final round for 2023 will be held on October 7, 2023 (9:00 am to 6:00 pm), with results announced on October 9, 2023.
ON-GROUND SEMI-FINAL
The semi-final is organized as zonal-level events held in four different zones: North, South, East, and West. The top six teams from each zone, selected from the top 50 teams in the quarter final round, will participate in the on-ground semi-final events. These events will take place in Delhi, Chennai, Kolkata, and Mumbai, respectively.
Participants from the top six teams will need to travel to the venue at their own expense, although IIBF will reimburse the II-AC (both ways) or the equivalent amount for travel. Lodging, boarding, and local transportation are the responsibility of the participating teams.
NATIONAL FINALE
The grand finale of Banking Chanakya features the four winning teams from the respective zones.
The zonal champions will gather in Mumbai to compete for the ultimate title. Similar to the semi-finals, IIBF will reimburse travel expenses up to II-AC (both ways) or the equivalent amount, with participants responsible for lodging, boarding, and local transportation.
