This story goes back about 30 years when a special pay increase for using computers was given to employees in nationalized banks, but the same benefit was not given to employees in Regional Rural Banks (RRBs).
Computer increment for bank employees there was a legal dispute about this matter for a long time. However, recently, the Indian government has made a decision. They have decided that the employees of RRBs will now also receive this special pay increase, known as an “Advanced increment.”
This decision will be put into action starting from April 1, 2018.
A NEW CHAPTER: RESOLUTION FOR REGIONAL RURAL BANK EMPLOYEES
In today’s situation, a decision that many people were waiting for has finally been made. Starting from April 1, 2018, workers in Regional Rural Banks will get more pay for using computers. This is good news because it means that employees will also get this extra pay for the time before now.
The extra pay for computer uses in RRBs will start from the same date when the pension scheme began in RRBs, which is April 1, 2018. The banks are told to give this extra pay to the workers who qualify for it. But before doing this, they need permission from the Board of Directors. They also need to tell the Department of Financial Services and the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development about it.
This is significant because it means that the RRB employees will get the same computer increment benefit that the employees in nationalized banks have been receiving for many years. Even though the decision took a long time to come, it’s a positive step towards fairness and equality for RRB employees.
This new rule will recognize their work and provide them with the deserved pay increase. It’s a noteworthy development after a prolonged legal process, and it’s good news for RRB employees who have been waiting for this change for a very long time.

CONTEMPT PETITION CCC 76/2020
In the case of Contempt Petition CCC 76/2020 regarding the computer increment issue, which was presented before the Karnataka High Court, a hearing was scheduled for August 11, 2023.
During the hearing, D S G (possibly the Deputy Solicitor General) submitted a memorandum. This memorandum stated that in response to the court’s order dated March 22, 2011, in W P (C) 20034-36/2003, the Government of India, through a letter dated August 4, 2023, has advised 37 Regional Rural Banks (RRBs) to provide the computer increment to eligible employees from April 1, 2018. The Hon’ble Court inquired if this response was satisfactory to the concerned parties.
They raised an objection, contending that implementing the increment from April 1, 2018, does not align with the settlement reached on October 29, 1993. According to them, the increment should have been implemented from November 1, 1993. The Court granted permission to file objections and postponed the proceedings for a period of two weeks.
