The increase will see the DA and DR rates climbing from 46% to 50%, signifying a significant boost in their earnings and financial security.

 

EFFECTIVE DATE AND ARREARS

 

This approved increase in dearness allowance will be effective from January 1 of the current year.

This means that eligible Central Government employees and pensioners will not only enjoy the enhanced rates moving forward but will also receive arrears for the period since the beginning of the year, ensuring that they are adequately compensated for any delayed benefits.

ADDITIONAL BENEFITS ABOUT DA HIKE FOR CENTRAL GOVERNMENT EMPLOYEES

 

In addition to the hike in dearness allowance, the announcement includes other increments and benefits aimed at improving the overall compensation package for Central Government employees and pensioners.

Notably, there is a 25% increase in transport allowance, canteen allowance, and deputation allowance, providing further financial relief and support.

Moreover, adjustments have been made to the House Rent Allowance (HRA) rates for different categories.

These adjustments entail an increase from 27% to 30%, from 19% to 20%, and from 9% to 10% of the basic pay, offering enhanced accommodation benefits to eligible individuals.

 

BENEFICIARIES AND FINANCIAL IMPACT

 

The approved hike in dearness allowance is expected to benefit approximately 49.18 lakh employees and 67.95 lakh pensioners across the country.

This significant enhancement in their compensation package will alleviate financial burdens and enhance their economic well-being, providing much-needed relief in the face of economic challenges.

 

Furthermore, the combined impact on the exchequer, considering both Dearness Allowance and Dearness Relief, is estimated to be Rs 12,869 crore per annum. Over the course of the year 2024-25 (from January 2024 to February 2025).

The projected impact is expected to rise to Rs 15,014 crore, reflecting the scale and magnitude of the government’s financial commitment to its employees and retirees.
