Canara Bank offers locker facility to customers. Its subsidiary service provided by the bank in certain branches where safe deposit vault is installed. These lockers can be hired by

Customers need to pay one time locker registration fee/charges of ₹ 400+GST. In a year 12 operation in locker is free of cost beyond that bank will charge ₹ 100+GST for per visit. In case of lost of locker key bank will charge ₹ 1000+GST in addition to actual cost of breaking of the locker.

LOCKER OPERATON BY THE CUSTOMERS

When a locker hirer approaches the branch for locker operations, the following steps should be taken:

1. Only the locker hirer or authorized individuals should be allowed to operate the locker. Their identities should be properly verified, and the authorization should be recorded by the branch officials.

2. The officer or supervisor should verify if the rent for the locker has been paid by the hirer. No operations should be permitted if there are any rent arrears.

3. When the hirer visits the branch to operate the locker, they should provide their locker number and sign the Master sheet-cum-Attendance Register.

4. The officer or supervisor should verify the signature and ensure the correct identity of the locker hirer or authorized persons.

5. After proper verification, the officer or supervisor should sign the specified column in the Locker Attendance Register.

6. An entry should also be made in the Locker Daily Operation Register.

7. The officer or supervisor holding the master key should accompany the hirer to the locker and open it using both the master key and the hirer’s key.

8. The locker holder should be advised to check and ensure that the locker is securely locked before leaving the vault.

9. The officer or supervisor should not remain present when the locker hirer opens the locker after it has been unlocked.

10. The branch should note the date and time (check-in and check-out) when locker hirers access the lockers and obtain their signature in the Locker Attendance Register.

11. The branch should also record the details of locker operations, including date and time, in the CBS system. The bank will send email and SMS alerts to the registered email ID and mobile number of the locker hirer as a confirmation of locker operations.

12. An ingress and egress register should be maintained to track access to the Vault Room by locker hirers and other individuals, including bank staff. Their signatures should be recorded in the appropriate records.

13. After the locker hirer has operated the locker, the officer in charge of the Safe Deposit Locker (SDL) should check if the lockers are properly closed. If not, the locker must be immediately closed, and the hirer should be promptly notified via email, SMS, or letter to verify any discrepancies in the locker’s contents.

14. The registers of the locker department should always be in the custody of the supervisory staff and should be kept locked when not in use.

15. The hirer should not be allowed to stay unreasonably long in the strong room.

16. At the end of the day, the officers in charge of the strong room or vault should inspect the area to ensure that no one is left inside the vault.
